Christmas gift of the year
Every year in Sweden, at the end of November, a retail research agency announces the Christmas gift of the year. It’s not necessarily the gift that they think will sell best the year but rather one that represents the time we live in and the kind of developments that we are seeing in our consumption habits.
This year, the Christmas gift of the year is... THE RECYCLED GARMENT… which is defined as a garment made completely or partially from recycled or second hand materials 🤪🤗😆
I can’t begin to tell you how happy I got when I heard the announcement this year. Many retailers are still trying to shove Black Friday down our throats and make us buy rubbish that we barely want, let alone need! But others are paying attention to the fact that consumers want to shop sustainably and that a more circular economy is required to make that a reality.
Well done HUI Research for drawing our attention to this important issue and for making it 100% acceptable to give a preloved gift this Christmas 💝
Time to explore the second hand stores in your area and see what fantastic gifts you can find. If you’re not sure whether your loved ones would appreciate a preloved gift, why not ask them? Explain that it’s important that we move to a more circular economy in order to continue to have a future on this planet and see what they think.
Good luck and happy sustainable Christmas!
