Is Black Friday the Ultimate Pushy Pattern?
Black Friday is all about convincing us that we have short-lived access to a special price (which in reality may not be true at all). This false send of urgency stops us from engaging our rational brains on the question of whether we actually need the item we are about to buy.
This is very similar to the way that pushy patterns work.
Pushy patterns are designed into online shopping websites to encourage impulse purchases. Countdown timers, and stock counts, are two really common types of pushy pattern, They are designed to make you think that you might miss out on your purchase if you don’t hurry up. They thereby encourage us to make impulse purchases, which we might not actually make if we had more time to reflect.
